this is my weekly blog post which I know you like, so I decided to keep this format for another Fantasy Premier League season. In this post I present you my 3 players which I recommend for upcoming Gameweek. Hopefully they’ll reward us with big hauls.
First of them is a Captain – in my opinion the most important factor in FPL. You can do everything right, but if you struggle with captain selection, almost always the red arrows will appear next to your overall ranking. Basically this choice will be also my choice for my own team, but sometimes I just won’t have the player I recommend you in my line-up.
Second choice is a ‘secret weapon‘, a player you should definitely consider to you line-up. This will be more a long-term choice rather than someone only for the next gameweek. My aim is to pick a player with good underlying stats & fixtures run so you can profit over next few gameweeks (let’s say no less than 3 GW’s but likely no longer than 5 GW’s).
Third choice is ‘niche‘, a differential pick with overall ownership less than 5%. This should help you to differentiate your team form the template – also from your mini-league rivals – and often turn your eye to someone who might be worth having because of his points to price ratio.
- CAPTAIN – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Fulham vs Arsenal)
It seems that there are two main candidates for an armband in GW1, it’s Mo Salah & Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. I’m going to trust my gut feeling and captain the Gunner. There are no particular data to back this decision, because it’s GW1. We can base on previous seasons but these data are more or less similar (both are big guns with outstanding history). We could take into contention pre-season games but I believe they shouldn’t determine our decisions. We could talk here about FA Community Shield, where Salah was completely invisible but I think it doesn’t matter as well. So, what’s the reason? I just rate Marcelo Bielsa very much, his coaching skills are great and I expect Leeds to do well in the Premier League. So having this in mind, I’m a little bit afraid that their pressing and tactic might make things complicated for Salah. Or I just believe that Leeds are more capable to make it harder for Liverpool then Fuhlam will make it for Arsenal. This is the first and main reason. Second is GW2. Over this season I’m going to plan to captain the same player a few gameweeks in the row (at least two times in the row). So if I had to choose now, I would prefer Auba vs WHU at home rather then Salah away at Stamford Bridge (but most likely will be neither of them 😂).
- 2. Secret weapon – Timo Werner (Brighton vs Chelsea)
It’s a new face at Stamford Bridge but there are big hopes from day one. His achievements in Bundesliga are incredible, but I doubt he will be able to maintain them in the Premier League. Anyway, my gut feeling says that there are good vibes around Chelsea, they have had one of the best transfer windows ever, there are big – but justified – hopes so following them I’m also really optimistic about The Blues. Everyone is going to help him to introduce himself in the best possible way, to build self confidence in the Premier League and there are great fixtures for that. Three out of four opening games are one of the easiest they could have. I’m very excited about this prospect, let see if he’ll fulfill the expectations and become the striker that Chelsea is missing since Diego Costa. It’s a bold statement but I believe he can.
- 3. Niche – Christian Pulisic (Brighton vs Chelsea) 3.7% ownership
Did I mention about Chelsea? Did I say they have had one of the best transfers over the years? Did I write about they perfect fixtures run for the Premier League start? I did not mention only yet, that there are still also a few good known old faces there. One of those is Christian Pulisic who is reported to be 100% fit for GW1 and who scored 9 goals and had 8 assists in 1717 minutes last season, so he had been giving us a return each 101 min. I remember how explosive he was and how much I enjoyed watching him him on the pitch. His current ownership makes him an extremely good differential. Although I’m afraid he won’t play a full game (he is right after injury) I back him to have an impact in the game against Brighton. Btw how could easily become a ‘secret weapon’ for a few upcoming GW’s. As I mentioned Chelsea’s fixtures run looks tasty.
